Smart Meters...Installation Begins!

Smart Meter installation has begun in Cobourg and Colborne.

Smart Meters have been mandated in the Province of Ontario. Utilities in Ontario are in the process of installing Smart Meters.

By the end of 2010 in the Province of Ontario every home and business will have a Smart Meter installed, providing consumers with an important tool to help manage their electricity use.

As part of the Ontario Government's Smart Meter plan, this is an advance notice that LAKEFRONT UTILITIES INC. IS PLANNING FOR INSTALLATION IN 2009.

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DO ANYTHING AT THIS TIME.

HOW WILL MY SMART METER BE INSTALLED?

- You'll receive a visit from one of our service professionals.
- If your meter is located outside, you don't need to be at home.
- We'll need to turn your power off for approximately 10 minutes (under normal conditions) and apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Once installed, we'll later provide a detailed guide explaining how SMART METERS work and how you can take advantage of smart metering. Initially, your SMART METER will continue to work just like your current one with no immediate change to your electricity rates. You will be notified in advance of the availability of Time-of-Use Pricing. FOR NOW, NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

Once your SMART METER is installed and time of use (TOU) pricing is in effect you will see many benefits. Here are just a few . . .

1. You can manage your electricity bills by taking action. Reduce or contain your costs by paying attention to when you use the most electricity.

2. You'll get detailed information about your electricity use. Each TOU period shows how much electricity was consumed - and, the internet or phone may be able to give you detailed information in the near future.

3. Your SMART METER reads electricity by the hour, and your bill will reflect that using TOU (time-of-use) pricing.
